Today, we are cleaning and it reminds me of summers spent at camp.
Ever notice how certain aromas, fragrances or smells instantly transport you to some other time or place? Pine-Sol does that for me and the destination is always church camp. The camp, El Porvenir, is in the mountains above Las Vegas, NM and it had been Jack Dempsey's training camp (which left me with a great little treasure that I found on the premises: a 1914 buffalo nickel).
The dining hall had wood floors and since my mom was the camp cook for many, many years, I could often be found loitering around the kitchen and dining area before and after meals. At the end of the day, the dining room supervisor for the week would command the underlings to begin mopping - with Pine-Sol and hot water.
Such good memories to me.
My sister, who shared many of the same moments in the same location, thinks I'm nuts.
